After giving up over 300 rushing yards to the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, the Green Bay Packers claimed defensive tackle Jonathan Ford off waivers on Monday. Ford was originally drafted by the Packers in 2022 in the seventh round. He spent three years with the team, but never played in a regular-season game for Green Bay.
In 2024, Ford was poached off the Packers’ practice squad and was added to the Chicago Bears’ 53-man roster. Since then, Ford has played 173 snaps of defense over 12 games for
the Bears.
The Packers had an open roster spot because of the placement of linebacker Kristian Welch on the injured reserve. Since they had the space, Green Bay didn’t need to make a corresponding roster move for the Ford addition. The Packers are also expected to place defensive tackle Jordon Riley and cornerback Kamal Hadden on the injured reserve soon, too, after they suffered season-ending injuries against the Baltimore Ravens.
With the swap of Riley for Ford, Green Bay still has six defensive tackles, including Colby Wooden, Karl Brooks, Warren Brinson, Quinton Bohanna and Nazir Stackhouse. In total, the squad has 13 defensive linemen on the active roster.
