The Utah Jazz announced that Georges Niang will be out with a stress fracture in his left foot.
From Utah Jazz PR:
Niang suffered a fourth metatarsal stress reaction in his left foot during offseason training
and conditioning. He will be reevaluated in two weeks.
It’s a tough injury for the Mini Van, who now starts the season having to overcome injury instead of finding his place in the new construct of the team.
Though it’s a tough injury for Niang, it doesn’t affect the goals of the Jazz this season. If anything, it clears the path for the Jazz’s youth to have more opportunities to play. Those minutes are on the fringes of the rotation, so it’s not much of a change, but it does mean more security for the rookies and young players in their roles.
For now, Niang slides into more of a mentor role as he recuperates from injury and may even find some time on the floor once he comes back.
