Julio Cesar Chavez Jr was swiftly taken into ICE custody following his pathetic performance against Jake Paul in June, and the U.S. government took swift action to see him sent back to Mexico without much delay in order to have him face Mexican prosecutors who believe he’s part of the Sinaloa Cartel. Chavez Jr’s lawyer Ruben Fernando Benítez Alvarez tells ESPN that Chavez could await trial outside of jail as a judge has recently granted an additional three months of investigation into the case.
Chavez
Jr is said to have been under investigation by Mexican authorities since 2019 for his alleged involvement in arms, human, and drug trafficking, where he’s supposedly been a wanted man in Mexico since 2023. Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum says Chavez Jr hadn’t previously been taken into custody because he was spending most of his time abroad in the United States and therefore inaccessible to them.
This is, of course, just the latest setback for Chavez Jr who’s had a whole host of issues over the years. Wherever his legal case takes him in Mexico, it seems it will be extremely difficult for him to ever make a legal entry back in the United States after this.
