Former Kentucky women’s basketball player Josie Gilvin has made some history. She became the first player in the class of 2022 to commit to a school since the Colorado injunction made it possible.
Gilvin is headed back to a place she is really familiar with. Before playing her long season in Lexington, where she was only able to play minimal minutes, Gilvin is headed back to Western Kentucky, according to On3’s Talia Goodman.
She spent the first 3 years of her college career at Western, where she averaged 13.1 points on 41 percent shooting from deep in her junior year. That production never found its way to Lexington, though.
Gilvin struggled to get on the court, playing just 6 minutes a game as Kenny Brooks shifted to a 6-player rotation.
Gilvin entered the portal after the season in hopes that the NCAA would implement the 5-in-5 rule. Of course, they did, but they didn’t extend that to the class of 2022. The named plaintiffs who initiated the case include former Northern Colorado men’s basketball player Brock Wisne and Minnesota’s Cade Tyson.
Thanks to that injunction, any player who entered the portal back when it was open can now transfer. Of course, the NCAA is fighting that, but for now it appears that Gilvin has found her new home, one she is already familiar with.
