Hamburger SV manager Merlin Polzin is excited to face Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
“”In this game, we’re more like second favourites, to put it that way. Nevertheless, we want to be successful because we’re competitive and want to put in a positive performance – both in terms of the way we play and the result. It’s a very special game for us against by far the best team in Germany and one of the best teams in Europe. We need to defend compactly and diligently, but at times we also
want to play higher up the pitch without the ball. And when we have the ball, it will be about going forward with a purpose,” said Polzin (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We have little influence on what has happened in past matches between HSV and Bayern. We don’t want to dwell on old stories; we’re happy that we can reshape history. We have the conviction and belief in our capabilities. We want to bring our game to the pitch, even though it’s against a very, very strong opponent. We’ll give it our all for the 8,000 HSV fans in the stadium and all the HSV fans in front of the TV.”
Polzin also noted that he is looking forward to chatting with Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany, who once patrolled the backline for Hamburger SV.
“I’m extremely excited to meet him personally. As a player, he was an absolute leader with an impressive mentality. For me as a young coach, he was always a reference because he simply has a strong personality. In addition to the sporting competition, we’re very much looking forward to the encounter, as he clearly still has HSV in his heart,” Polzin stated.
Bayern Munich is back in Bundesliga action after an international break and just before the Champions League kicks off.
