The Denver Broncos are trying to do something few teams have ever done by winning a title with a backup quarterback. The first step will come at home against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. The hopes and dreams of Broncos Country now rides on the shoulders of Jarrett Stidham.
With that in mind, we need to see what we got in him and the tape is better than you’d think from a backup quarterback in the NFL.
Two really good breakdowns dropped this week. The first I’ve got here is from
Chase Daniel who played under Sean Payton in New Orleans, so he has some good insight on that aspect of it. He focuses on Stidham’s preseason performances, which were all excellent games for him.
The other one came earlier in the day from Tim Jenkins who always comes out with solid Broncos quarterback film. He focused in on the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, but also includes his regular season game against the Las Vegas Raiders back in 2023.
The direct link to his breakdown is on YouTube, but the NFL was blocking it from being embedded.
The key takeaway I got from both breakdowns is that Stidham is as ready as he’ll ever be to prove he can start in this league. He has command of this offense after three years under Payton and he lit things up in preseason. Yes, it was preseason, but you can only put up the tape where you play.
Each of those preseason games he dominated. He went 14/15 for 136 yards and two touchdowns against the San Francisco 49ers and 16/23 for 240 yards and two more touchdowns against the Arizona Cardinals. We all hope that is the Jarrett Stidham we see on Sunday.
