It’s the biggest news of the transfer window (so far). Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona battled it out to sign England international winger Anthony Gordon, with the Catalans ultimately winning out. Reports indicate that Barça were more than ready to meet Newcastle United’s demanded transfer fee, with FC Bayern were unwilling to pay.
However, there was another factor in the transfer: Gordon’s own willingness to support a move. At first, Bayern got the player to agree to personal terms, before Barcelona
swooped in and hijacked the deal. This is the part that Thomas Müller simply cannot understand.
“If Barcelona and Bayern come, what was the deciding factor for Gordon not coming to Munich?” he asked on the Bild podcast Bayern Insider (via Goal.com). “I know Hansi Flick very well, of course. It’s a lot of fun playing under him, both in terms of his leadership and his style of play. But I would go to FC Bayern.”
Unfortunately, Gordon did not see it that way, which is why he is bound for Spain and not Germany this summer. Bayern Munich will turn their attention to other targets, as they always do. This transfer window is far from over.
