Bayern Munich’s front office has just hammered the final nail into the coffin of all the hopes and dreams of delusional Real Madrid fans who believed that Michael Olise would be joining them this season.
Olise, who is a strong Ballon d’Or contender, currently holds the record for most assists in a FIFA World Cup campaign, the record for most assists in a single season, and had a mind-numbing 53 goal contributions (G+A) for Bayern Munich in just 52 games last season.
To think that a club of Bayern’s
stature would let their MVP leave the club after the season he’s just had is laughable. In an interview with Maximilian Koch of Abendzeitung (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was asked whether Michael Olise will be staying, to which he responded with a resounding “Yes, of course.”
Dreesen then added that there was “no call, no letter, and no fax from Madrid”, quashing all the silly Olise to Madrid rumours. The Madrid execs would know better than to try and strong-arm a club of Bayern’s stature to sell off one of their best players… a player who is contracted at the club until 2029, with an extension likely.
Which was obviously also touched upon in the interview.
On a new contract for Michael Olise, Dreesen responded, “That’s a matter for the sporting management [Eberl & Freund]. But he’s under contract until 2029, so we’re in a very comfortable position. The fact that people are talking about him is proof of how much he’s developed under Vincent Kompany. The player appreciates that immensely as well.”
All of this makes perfect sense. The club would only be able to extend the player’s contract for another 2 years if it chose to now, and there is absolutely no reason to rush into that. They could always wait another season or two, during which they could run negotiations and develop stronger relations with the player. Franck Ribéry is one such legend, who was convinced to stay and reject Real Madrid, among other top clubs, to continue playing for Bayern.
Olise will be a Bayern player for the foreseeable future.
