Where’s Florida State to go from here after dropping a fourth straight game? According to multiple reports, discussions about FSU’s future with Mike Norvell have begun, with CBS Sports’ article including
one damning anecdote about the state of the team’s culture:
Some believe Norvell’s message is getting lost on his team. After the loss to Stanford, a source told CBS Sports that players were cracking jokes in the locker room about having to “respond” yet again. “Respond” is a common phrase for Norvell to his team as losses mount. CBS Sports’ Brandon Marcello, who spent Saturday in the ACC replay center, said on the College Football Insiders that he could see Florida State’s sideline in the All-22 camera view and was struck by the lack of player engagement.
Norvell promised an “immediate, fast fix” after last season’s debacle — through seven games in 2025, it’s clear that promise has failed:
Jordan Silversmith wrote on the apathy felt by both the team and fanbase during Saturday night/Sunday morning’s loss:

FSU women’s golf is in first place at the 14th Annual Jim West Challenge, with freshman Haruhi Nakatani is in a tie for second place in the individual standings:
Nakatani totaled scores of 70 and 68 to lead the Seminoles with a 36-hole total of 138 as the 14-team field battled 30 miles per hour winds in the morning round.
Florida State gained the lead in the first round as Nakatani and sophomore Elin Pudas Remler earned scores of 70 and the Seminoles totaled a team score of 1-under par. The Seminoles were the only team under par in the morning round.
The Seminoles finished tied with Texas A&M for the best team score of the second round. The Seminoles and the Aggies earned 8-under par team scores of 280 over the second round of 18 holes.
Florida State enters the final round of the championship on Monday with a seven-stroke lead over Texas A&M and a nine-stroke lead over Oklahoma.
Florida State volleyball (9-8, 3-5) defeated Cal (6-12, 3-5) in five sets (22-25, 25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 16-14) on Saturday night:
In a closely contested first set, the Noles jumped out to an early 14-10 lead. Cal chipped away as the set went on, tying it up at 21. The Golden Bears would go on a 4-1 run to take the opening set. Kyleene Filimaua led the Noles offensively with seven kills in the set.
FSU scored five quick points in the second set and didn’t look back. The Noles would go on a 13-5 run in the set, leading to a 10-point 25-15 victory. Filimaua continued to be a force with her swing, finishing the first two sets with double-digit kills, while Iane Henke picked up right where she left off. Having not played since recording a career-high 21 kills against Georgia Tech, Henke also found herself with double-digit kills heading into the third.
Henke and Filimaua combined for 10 kills in the third set. The Seminoles dominated the Golden Bears on the net, recording three consecutive blocks to take a 20-17 lead. The Noles would go on to win the set 25-20.
Cal took advantage of a slow start in the fourth set, grabbing a 15-9 lead. The Noles pulled within three late in the set, but the Golden Bears would go on to extend the match to a fifth set.
The fifth set consisted of different swings of momentum with Cal holding an early 6-3 lead. FSU fought back to get within one, and back-to-back Filiamaua kills gave the Noles their first lead of the set. The set would later be tied at 13, before Filimaua would close the door with her 25th kill of the evening to win the match for FSU.
Henke finished the match with a career-high 27 kills, which led all players. Filimaua tied a career-high of 25 kills. The pair was responsible for 59.5 total points scored for the Seminoles.
