It’s been business as usual for Bayern Munich in their summer preparations for the 2026/27 season to come. Even with a lot of their stars taking longer to linkup with the rest of the squad due to their involvements in the World Cup with their respective nations, they’ve won all three of their preseason friendlies with a relatively thin squad. Wins over Rottach-Egern, Jeju SK, and Aston Villa have the momentum from last season carrying on, coming off of the domestic double and having come so close
to reaching the Champions League final.
It’s not been a crazy, hectic summer transfer window by any stretch of the imagination for the Bundesliga champions, either, but they’ve brought in Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt and Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven; solid signings that will certainly help bolster the squad’s overall strength. The front office has also said not to expect anymore signings this summer, the squad is more or less set for the coming season, barring out-of-favor players being sold off. With that said, there’s still an elite squad at Vincent Kompany’s disposal that, with the evidence of last season’s brand of football, can go just as far as they did last season, or even one step further — a goal that board member for sport Max Eberl feels is attainable.
“We had an outstanding last season. The goal is to repeat that performance. We have to keep in mind it’s not a given, and it’s the result of a lot of hard work and a clear strategy. Yes, we’ll probably go into the season as favourites in the league. I think Dortmund, Leipzig, Leverkusen with their new coach and new players will be competitors, even though the transfer window is not over yet and we can’t fully judge them,” Eberl said (via @iMiaSanMia).
Regardless of other teams in the Bundesliga that could be direct rivals for Bayern, Eberl expects a repeat of the domestic double and also going to the next step in the Champions League in getting to the final in Madrid next year. “There’ll probably be 1-2 surprise teams. We’re aware we’ll be favorites, and we want to stay on top and win the title again, that’s the goal for the new season. We set the bar high by winning the double last season. In the third competition [The Champions League], we would’ve liked to play one more game. We’ll work on achieving that,” he urged.
Essentially, a treble is the hope and expectation this time around with the squad that Bayern has under Kompany’s management. It’s been one step better last season than it was from the Belgian’s first season in charge and there’s no reason to believe he can’t go the full distance across all three fronts this coming season.
