Barcelona midfielder Pedri has admitted he was left baffled by VAR during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.
There was an issue with the technology in the first half at Vallecas, meaning Barcelona’s penalty for a foul on Lamine Yamal could not be reviewed.
Pedri says that during the game he did not know whether VAR was working or not, a situation he feels can’t be repeated in Spain’s top flight.
“I didn’t know when there was or wasn’t a VAR. At first they said there wasn’t one, halfway
through the match there was, then again there wasn’t… We have to improve it so that the competition is much more serious,” he told Onda Cero.
“The best thing would have been if it started with or without VAR it would have ended the same. It’s a bit strange to be in the middle of the match and they tell you now yes, now no.”
Rayo coach Iñigo Pérez was also furious about the VAR situation during the game, saying afterwards: “It’s not a good image for our league. If VAR is not working, we should suspend the game until it is.”
