Nick Dorn was the catalyst for Indiana men’s basketball’s late season surge that saw the Hoosiers win three consecutive games against Rutgers, Purdue and UCLA to move back into position for an NCAA Tournament berth.
A small forward transfer from Elon who spent much of the offseason recovering from an injury, Dorn’s 3-point shooting gave Indiana another scoring option along the perimeter alongside Lamar Wilkerson and Tucker DeVries, adding points and floor spacing. Dorn scored 23 points at Rutgers,
18 against Purdue and then 26 at UCLA.
Since then, he’s struggled from deep. He’s made just four of his 26 attempts from 3-point range in the Hoosiers’ last four games.
Indiana head coach Darian DeVries was asked about this during a media availability ahead of the Hoosiers’ matchup at Purdue on Friday night.
“I think he’s had a little bit of a shooting slump, but it’s like, keep shooting,” DeVries said. “The numbers are gonna average themselves out here at any moment. Nick’s a really good shooter, that next game could be the six-for-eight game”
DeVries added that Dorn has done a good job of picking his spots and getting to the rim as of late, saying he’ll continue to improve driving the ball down the stretch.
“I think for all of our guys it’s just remain confident,” DeVries said. “Cause it doesn’t do any good any good to not be. Trust the work, as we always say. He puts in a lot of work and it’ll pay off for him.”
