According to a report by Foot Mercato, Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona are interested in Lecce center-back Tiago Gabriel. At 21 years old, the young Portuguese defender has established himself as a mainstay in coach Eusebio di Francesco’s team.
Per the report, three clubs are currently interested — FC Bayern, Barça, and Saudi Arabian club Neom SC. It’s an odd time for transfer rumors, when Saudi clubs are mentioned in the same breath as the two FCBs. It seems the paradigm really has shifted.
Gabriel
has apparently been a revelation for Lecce this season, managing to start seventeen games so far this season in Serie A. Lecce are thus determined to keep the young defender for at least the remainder of the season. They would only be swayed if a very significant offer were to come through.
Now, FC Barcelona are in no position to be making offers for anyone, significant or otherwise, while Bayern seem content to let the winter transfer window pass by without doing any business (that doesn’t involve selling). So Lecce are safe for now, unless Tiago Gabriel wants his big money move to Saudi Arabia a decade sooner than most footballers are willing to make.
