Good morning, New York Giants fans! The Giants head into the last week of training camp with the traditional preseason matchup against the New York Jets set for Friday night.

He seems reenergized with his new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. “This is fun,” Banks said. “I’m having a great time with it. I wouldn’t say I’m more confident because I feel I’m always a confident dude. I guess you
can see it in my play more.”
The new coaching staff “gave me a reset,’’ he said, and “let me be me.’’ Asked what that means, Banks said, “Let me go out there and play my game. Let me go out there and do what I do best.” This means increased usage as an aggressive press corner in man coverage.

23. New York Giants. If the Giants are sure that both WR Malik Nabers and RB Cam Skattebo will be ready for the start of the season, this group could be ranked higher. But Nabers is still in the process of returning from a torn ACL and Skattebo is dealing with an ankle injury, so while the early reports are encouraging, the longer-term prospects are at least a little murky.
Nabers is the real key because he’s far and away the Giants’ most dangerous weapon. They’ll piece together the rest of the receiving corps with Darius Slayton, Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin and rookie Malachi Fields, and maybe what’s left of Odell Beckham Jr. New York is also hoping for a leap from TE Isaiah Likely, a John Harbaugh transport from Baltimore who often thrived in limited action behind Mark Andrews.

Loser: Tyrone Tracy Jr., RB, New York Giants. Over the last two weeks, Tyrone Tracy Jr.’s stock has plummeted. In the New York Giants’ preseason opener, he missed a block that allowed Minnesota Vikings safety Jay Ward to crush quarterback Jaxson Dart on a sack. In this week’s game against the Miami Dolphins, Tracy lost a fumble before halftime. He finished with six carries for 26 yards. Devin Singletary outperformed him, logging eight carries for 40 yards and a touchdown.
While this may seem like an overreaction, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Giants move on from Tracy. Big Blue signed Narris Harris, a 6’1″, 232-pound ball-carrier who can split early-down touches with Cam Skattebo. Singletary may have played his way into the No. 3 spot. Tracy is the most dynamic pass-catcher of the group, but if the Giants believe he’s a liability in pass protection, they may cut or trade him.

Defensive line (6). Starters: D.J. Reader, Shelby Harris, Chauncey Golston. Backups: Darius Alexander, Bobby Jamison-Travis, Leki Fotu
What we have seen: This is going to be the priority of the personnel department and coaching staff over the next two weeks. We’re including Golston here because he has flashed at 5-technique. Could he legit hold up as a starter in the base run defense? That’s a tough ask. I think the Giants will be looking for depth at this position. There are questions about Alexander against the run that have emerged, so until he firms up there, the Giants have more work to do. The waiver wire and/or trade market should factor here.

It may feel wrong to not see Beckham on the 53-man, and I don’t make the choice lightly. The fan favorite has looked sharp in camp and still clearly has something left. He made a couple Dolphins defensive backs look silly in one-on-ones and showed off some wiggle after the catch on his first reception Saturday. However, he also dropped what would have been a touchdown reception. It’s a mistake a player fighting for a spot can’t make. Berrios has made a ton of catches during camp and offers more special teams flexibility, so I ultimately decided to give him the final spot.

That’s six losses that could have gone the other way against teams with winning records. The Giants held fourth-quarter leads in five of the six — and final-minute leads in three. They lost four games where they held a win probability of at least 90% in the fourth quarter. The rest of the league lost just 15 such games combined. The Giants are just the fourth team to lose four of those games in a season, joining the 2013 Buccaneers, 2009 Steelers and … 2015 Giants, who also got their head coach fired (or forced out), with Tom Coughlin’s tenure ending.
Dennard Wilson’s defense will be tested to begin the campaign, as the Giants start their season against the Cowboys and Rams before the schedule briefly softens. Over the full season, the Giants project to face the league’s eighth-toughest schedule by the FPI’s algorithm, which could dampen their chances of making it to the postseason. I believe they have a legitimate shot at surprising the league and becoming a last-place team that jumps into the playoffs in 2026, but so much will depend on whether the offensive standouts stay healthy for much (or all) of the year.
