Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje is on campus at Duke after a very successful run in Istanbul with the U17 Team USA. The U.S. won gold, and Boumtje Boumtje, who was already moving up in virtually everyone’s estimations, just made a huge impression.
Here’s a picture of Jon Scheyer showing him around Cameron Indoor Stadium, and perhaps pointing at the 2010 banner he helped to hang.
Here’s a video of him sort of introducing himself to Duke fans, and calling himself JoJo – not something we’d heard before, but if
that’s how he rolls, that’s how we’ll roll, too.
We’re excited to see some video with the entire team present, and to see how the various pieces start to sort themselves out.
As we noted yesterday, this is the deepest, most flexible team that Scheyer has had at Duke, and it has the potential to become a juggernaut.
That said, things can change. Nearly every year that Scheyer has coached Duke, he’s had some critical injuries to deal with. Last year, Duke played UConn with a hobbled Caleb Foster and, as we would learn later, Cameron Boozer played with several fractures in his orbital bone.
You never know what March will bring, but we can hope for better luck.
