With the 61st pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams selected tight end Max Klare out of Ohio State. This now marks the second time in as many years that the Rams have drafted a second round tight end having just selected Terrance Ferguson out of Oregon in 2025.
Between Klare, Ferguson, Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson, and Davis Allen, Sean McVay clearly has big things in mind for 05 personnel.
Klare is a 6’4, 246 lb tight end who was compared to Brenton Strange by NFL.com:
Highly athletic, pass-catching tight end capable of earning volume targets on the pro level. Klare can live beyond the typical targeted depth for most tight ends thanks to his route inventory and ability to generate separation across the field. He’s best from the slot but can widen out when a matchup presents itself. Hands and ball-tracking are below average but his production could make teams forget the drops. He improved as a run blocker as the season progressed, but “functional” might be the finish line there. In a league craving impact tight ends, Klare has a chance to inject life into an offense hunting mismatches.
One day after drafting Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick, a move met with intense controversy, grabbing yet another tight end in the second round is sure to bring more questions for Les Snead and Sean McVay.
Like what this means for Ferguson, a player who got very little action as a rookie in 2025. Or Parkinson, a potential trade candidate at this point. Certainly Allen must be thinking his days are numbered. Especially because the one guy you think might be on the way out, Higbee, just signed a two-year extension.
With all these tight ends, McVay must have a plan for Matthew Stafford next season. We just don’t know what it is.
