Harry Kane may now be celebrating the biggest individual honor in football as a Bayern Munich superstar, but the England captain has not forgotten the club where his journey began.
After winning the Ballon d’Or, Kane made a point of thanking Tottenham Hotspur for helping shape the player he has become. Having joined Spurs at just 11 years old, Kane developed through the club’s academy before becoming one of the most prolific strikers in Premier League history. Although his career has since taken him
to Munich, he recognizes the importance of those formative years in North London.
Kane reflected on the people, training, and experiences that helped him turn his childhood ambitions into reality.
“I also want to thank Tottenham Hotspur. I wouldn’t be here today without Tottenham. I joined the club when I was 11, and all the guidance and training I received there helped me achieve my dreams. Without all those moments and the people who supported me along the way, I wouldn’t be where I am today. So, I really want to thank Tottenham,” said Kane (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “To all the Bayern, England and Spurs fans, and all my fans around the world, many of whom are here in the room tonight, I greatly appreciate all the support you give me, both in the stands and away from the stadium, on social media and beyond. Thank you.”
It was a classy acknowledgment of the journey behind the achievement. Kane may have reached the summit of world football in Bayern Munich colors, but he knows he did not get there alone.
