Harry Kane did not want to wait much longer to open his Bundesliga account for the 2026/27 season, but the Bayern Munich striker admitted that the goal was actually worth waiting for after Sunday’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over SV 07 Elversberg.
Kane found the breakthrough when Bayern Munich needed it most, restoring the team’s lead after former Bayern Munich academy product Maurice Krattenmacher had briefly brought Elversberg level. For Kane, though, the most important part was not necessarily getting
his name on the scoresheet. It was leaving a difficult away fixture with all three points.
Speaking to DAZN after the match, Kane reflected on finally getting his first league goal of the campaign.
“That’s football, sometimes you have to wait more than you’d have expected. It was a nice to get the goal and the three points. It’s a tough place so we’re happy with the win. It was important to have fresh players coming off the bench and giving 110%. We often talk about the squad, the guys who came on gave us more energy. We could’ve scored more goals, but we take it. We probably haven’t reached our top level yet, but it’s still early days,” Kane said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kane’s comments also highlighted something that could prove increasingly important for Bayern Munich this season — squad depth. With the schedule already becoming demanding, the ability to bring fresh players into matches and maintain intensity could be crucial.
Despite dominating possession and creating plenty of opportunities, Bayern Munich had to work for the victory. Kane’s goal ultimately made the difference, but the England captain knows there is still another level available.
For Bayern Munich, that may be the most encouraging takeaway. The team is collecting points even before reaching its best form — and Kane is now on the score sheet for the Bundesliga.
