Good morning, baseball fans!
We are on the second to last week of the season for the San Francisco Giants. There are any number of ways to feel about this. Relief, joy, freedom. That’s kind of how I feel about it. Around this time of year, I usually tend to feel the same, but I try to remind myself that come December or so, I would usually start to miss it. But I don’t think that will be the case this year.
But we’ll have plenty of time to give our introspections about this season once it’s over. For
now, there is still one question mark hanging over us. And that is what I want to talk about today. As you’re all likely aware, the Willie Mac Award will be given out before next Friday’s game, as is tradition.
Usually I’m pretty decent at guessing who will win these, but I must confess that I have absolutely no read on it this year. That is partially because of how cruddy the season has been, partially because of how cruddy some of the players have been on a human level, and partially because most of the team is…well, gone.
I don’t usually ask you guys to make a prediction that I won’t counter, but I am stumped this season. Not as to who deserves it, I could probably make a couple of solid guesses. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that that is how the team voting will play out. I am trying not to become so cynical as to believe that they will hand the award to a player like Landen Roupp, as one last middle finger to the fans. But at this point, it would not surprise me.
So forgive me, this one time, for not wagering my own guess. Instead, I’d like to know who you think will win this year’s Willie Mac Award?
