A fresh report has linked Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton with a surprise move away from St. James’ Park before the summer transfer window closes.
The Brazil international has been one of Newcastle’s most influential players since reinventing himself as a midfielder following his transfer from the Bundesliga, where he was used as a bona fide striker.
Now, a new claim coming from Saudi Arabia suggests he’s been offered to Saudi Pro League clubs, the same thing the Magpies did with Allan Saint-Maximin
back in July 2023.
According to Hattrick journalist Khalid Al-Zahrani, Newcastle has offered Joelinton to Saudi Arabia’s recruitment committee, which then presented the midfielder to several clubs across the league.
The report claims that top sides Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr have shown no interest in Joelinton, while Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad and Al-Qadsiah are still considering a potential move for the Brazil international.
For now, no requested fee or formal offers have been reported, and in fact, there hasn’t been any indication from Newcastle that the club is actively seeking to sell the 29-year-old.
That said, Joelinton is entering the final two years of the contract he signed with the Magpies after helping transform Newcastle under Eddie Howe, and injuries have limited his availability in recent seasons.
Any potential move involving one of the Saudi Pro League clubs backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund would also be subject to scrutiny under fair market value regulations because of PIF’s ownership stake in Newcastle, so the Magpies should tread carefully here if there is any truth to the report.
For now, the claims remain uncorroborated outside Saudi Arabia, and there has been no suggestion from Newcastle or Joelinton’s representatives that an exit is imminent.
