Two Portland Trail Blazers’ division rivals struck a minor deal last night with one side saving money and the other gaining experience.
The Minnesota Timberwolves traded Josh Green, who they acquired in the LaMelo Ball deal, and cash to the Utah Jazz for young wing Cody Williams and veteran guard John Konchar, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The deal and subsequent waiving and stetching of Konchar’s expiring $6.2 million deal has allowed the Wolves to sign Jonathan Kuminga andstay under the second apron.
They also take a flyer on Williams who was taken with the 10th pick in 2024, three spots behind Donovan Clingan.
The Jazz get Green, who will earn $14.7 million this season as a veteran wing to complement the Salt Lake City club’s young core of Darryn Peterson, Keyonte George and Ace Bailey.
Konchar enters free agency where he can opt to sign with a contender in need of backcourt help.
