Good morning, baseball fans!
Over the weekend, we witnessed another epic moment in Bay Area sports history, as the Golden State Valkyries won the WNBA Finals against the Atlanta Dream on Saturday night!
This was only the Valkyries second season as a team after being added as an expansion team in 2025, making this one of the most impressive feats in American sports.
A lot of credit goes to coach Natalie Nakase, who led the team to this championship in only her second season as head coach, showing that
her defense-first coaching strategy was a winning one.
Additionally, a lot of credit goes to the owners as well who have invested just as heavily into the Valkyries as they have the Warriors. Anyone who has been to a game at Ballhalla, or even watched them on TV, can see how successful that has been. The Bay has embraced this team with all of its heart, and the team has returned the favor with a massive victory!
It was a close game, with the Valkyries trailing at halftime, but coming out with a vengeance in the second half, led by forward and Finals MVP Gabby Williams who had a monster second half on both ends of the court.
If you didn’t get a chance to watch the game, I highly encourage you to check out the highlights and the post-game interviews where players and coaches had a lot of excellent things to say.
For those wishing to attend the parade, it will take place on Wednesday. It will deviate from the usual championship parades that the city has hosted, however. Festivities will kick off in Oakland, and then the team will board a ferry for a ride over to the Ferry Building in San Francisco and then the parade will proceed down the Embarcadero to the arena.
If you’re headed to the parade, make sure to share pictures!
And most of all, congratulations to the Golden State Valkyries, your 2026 WNBA Champions!
