War has changed, like Solid Snake once said, but it never truly ends.
That’s the case in professional wrestling with WWE at the top of the heap and any company trying to rise to its level. In this case, AEW has taken the mantle as the number two promotion here stateside, and that means endless comparisons not just from fans but those who have done work for both.
The latest: Mick Foley — who, it needs stated, currently works for AEW after severing ties with WWE due to its affiliation with President
Donald Trump — claims Tony Khan and co. are doing a better job of making everyone on the card have a sense of importance.
As he said on The Mick and Kenny Show:
“Have you seen when I—you know, I kind of, I took a break from wrestling for a while, right? And then I found the AEW show was speaking more to me than the WWE show. And one thing I marvel at was like, ‘Wow, they really make the middle of the card meaningful.’ When I started talking to Tony, I was like, ‘I don’t know how you do it, but everyone who goes out there plays a role, has a sense of importance,’ where elsewhere it’s like these 10 guys are where they are. I don’t want to say an afterthought, and again, I don’t want to disparage—but I do think this company’s done a better job of making everyone meaningful. So, it’s such a deep roster, on any given night a guy can step up and battle for the AEW title. And I just—it’s a marvel.”
Again, he currently works for AEW and has every reason to stick up for his side.
I’ll let you decide if he’s on to something here.
Well?
