Necro Butcher (real name Dylan Keith Summers) shared some surprising news on Tuesday by claiming he had signed a “basic Legends deal with the WWE.”
Cageside Seats’ Geno Mrosko covered Necro’s message about the deal in this morning’s Rumor Roundup, but a subsequent story from PWInsider indicated that WWE President Nick Khan was believed to be personally behind the move to sign the indie wrestler.
PWInsider wrote that “WWE sources” said Necro was “100% accurate” in his claim about the agreement, and
added that “the belief is Nick Khan spearheaded the deal.”
PWInsider noted that Khan’s involvement was “similar to how he was responsible” for WWE signing a deal with the estate of another infamous death match wrestler, New Jack, a few years back.
“I have signed a basic legends deal with the WWE. The offer actually came in the day after I walked out of my job. The timing was ridiculous,” Necro wrote on Facebook. “Now, the door is open for various projects, which have already been discussed. But I’m taking things slow. What does this say about my career? A man who never worked there. But he worked hard everywhere he went. And still will. I will NOT miss my scheduled shows and most definitely will NOT be making any apology videos or speeches.
“I’ve worked hard, both for myself and for my fans. Nothing was more important to me than credibility and believability. I hope this leads to more opportunities for guys who never got that call to the big time. This is OUR reward. Let’s enjoy this together.”
His post also contained an image that appeared to show paperwork from WWE that included both his name and Khan’s.
Necro earned a reputation for brutal and bloody matches in promotions such as Ring of Honor, JCW, and CZW, where he pushed his body to extremes. He also had a brief cameo playing himself in Darren Aronosky’s 2008 film The Wrestler.
More recently, Summers was featured in a 2026 episode of Dark Side of the Ring that covered his infamous IWA Mid-South match against Samoa Joe at the ECW Arena on June 11, 2005. The match has long been considered one of the most violent and graphic fights in independent wrestling history.
With the new WWE Legends deal, Necro could potentially be involved in the promotion’s product lines, much like New Jack.
A WWE-licensed Mattel action figure of New Jack was recently released, and the ECW legend was added as downloadable content to WWE 2K25.
