Indiana football is getting involved with the recruitment of Matt Sieg, a 4-star safety in the class of 2026 out of Fort Cherry High School in McDonald, Pennsylvania, who is currently committed to Penn State,
per Tom Loy, a national recruiting analyst at 247Sports.
While Sieg, an in-state prospect in Pennsylvania, remains committed to Penn State, he is keeping his options open in the wake of James Franklin’s dismissal. He was recently re-offered by West Virginia and has visits scheduled to Indiana, Pitt and Notre dame, per Loy.
It’s obviously not uncommon for committed recruits to re-open their recruitment following a coach’s dismissal. Remaining committed to the Nittany Lions gives Sieg some amount of flexibility in his decision-making process as Penn State goes through the process of hiring a new head coach.
It’s also, again obviously, smart of Indiana to keep its ear to the ground on situations like this and present itself as an option should Sieg ultimately decide to head elsewhere.
