Patchy Mix still has a win on his record over Magomed Magomedov.
On Thursday, Tapology reported that the French MMA Federation (FMMAF) sent a notification that Mix’s May 2024 win over Magomedov at a Bellator
event in Paris was being overturned to a loss due to a positive drug test. No further details were offered and messages to the FMMAF were not returned.
Mike Mazzulli, the director of the Mohegan Tribe’s Department of Athletic Regulation who oversaw drug testing for that Bellator Champions Series card, confirmed he’s not overturning the result through the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports and explained how the entire debacle unfolded.
According to Mazzulli, the Mohegan Tribe’s Department of Athletic Regulation administered a drug test on Mix ahead of his fight with Magomedov and the results all came back negative. Testing was performed by Dr. Daniel Eichner at the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory (SMRTL), which is a World Anti-Doping Agency accredited lab.
A separate drug test administered by the FMMAF reportedly came back positive for marijuana. Although the results have been contested, that is what eventually led the commission to declare Mix’s win a being overturned nearly two years after it happened.
Mazzulli told MMA Fighting he forwarded the negative drug test results from the SMRTL lab to the FMMAF a few weeks after the event but never heard back from the commission.
“This is the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever seen,” Mazzulli told MMA Fighting on Thursday.
The ABC registry, which effectively serves as a record keeper for results in combat sports, still lists Mix with a win over Magomedov from the event and that will stand.
Mix’s victory against Magomedov served as his final appearance as Bellator bantamweight champion with the promotion having been absorbed into the PFL. Mix eventually secured his release from the PFL to then sign with the UFC as a free agent in 2025.
Mix hasn’t found as much success in the UFC with a pair of losses since joining the promotion, but his win against Magomedov still stands as recorded.
