Finn Bálor appeared on ESPN’s SportCenter on Wednesday to preview his upcoming WrestleMania 42 match against Dominik Mysterio.
During the interview with ESPN anchor Hannah Storm, the Irish superstar discussed how he’s bringing out The Demon to take on Dirty Dom, while also shedding light on why we haven’t see the persona in recent years.
“I know Dominik said a lot of things about me recently, and I wanted to play nice, but what else should I expect from Dominik but to play dirty when I’m the one who
showed him how to play dirty?” Finn said at the top of the segment.
He continued: “But there’s one thing I never showed him was that there’s two sides to Finn Bálor. A side that he knows, and a side that he has never met before. And that side I thought was gone. I thought I’d buried it forever. But Dom’s awoken it, and it’s back. And Dom is about to meet my demons at WrestleMania.”
Bálor has a lot to prove by having The Demon return this weekend. During Finn’s run in NXT, The Demon was unbeatable, but he’s shelved the persona — notable for dramatic, eerie makeup and a crawling entrance — for the past three years after losses to Roman Reigns and Edge.
In discussing the feud, Storm noted that Dom pinned Finn in a fatal fairway match at WrestleMania last year to win the Intercontinental Championship.
“In what sense do you see this now as an opportunity for revenge in a one-on-one setting?” she asked.
“The writing was on the wall a year ago. I knew that really I couldn’t trust Dominik,” Bálor replied.
Storm then pressed the former Judgment Day member to describe The Demon that Mysterio will encounter at this weekend’s PLE.
“It’s not something that I can really describe in words,” Finn replied. “It’s a feeling. It’s an emotion. It’s an energy.”
Bálor then went on to suggest why fans don’t often get to see The Demon in action.
“It’s something that I can only tap into very occasionally. It can be very draining,” he said.
Finn closed his thoughts on The Demon with a warning: “Trust me, it’s gonna be very painful for Dominik Mysterio.”
What do you think? Will The Demon prove to be the deciding factor and push Finn to a victory over Dirty Dom at WrestleMania 42? Let us know in the comments.
