The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Detroit Lions in a Week 6 matchup at on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on “Sunday Night Football.” Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. Arrowhead Time on NBC — locally
on KSHB/41.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Kansas City has opened as a 1.5-point favorite.
The last time these two teams met was in Week 1 of 2023, when the Lions defeated the Chiefs in Arrowhead 21-20 in a game that was marred by penalties and a costly pick-six that bounced off the hands of wide receiver Kadarius Toney and into the waiting arms of Lions Safety Brian Branch.
So far in 2025, the Chiefs are 2-3 against the spread, while the Lions are 4-1.
The Chiefs laid an egg in their opening game against the Los Angeles Chargers, and then lost their Week 2 Super Bowl rematch to the Philadelphia Eagles.
But Kansas City has looked markedly better in recent weeks, covering its Week 3 matchup against the New York Giants — where it was a 5.5 point favorite — and its Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens, in which it opened as 2.5 point home underdog.
But then the ghosts of Weeks 1 and 2 returned in the Chiefs’ Week 5 road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kansas City sabotaged its own efforts as it was penalized 13 times for 109 yards. A pick-6 thrown by quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the red zone — and an inability to tackle a quarterback lying on the ground — were among the errors that led to the Chiefs to squander what otherwise was a good offensive effort.
One thing to monitor is the availability of wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who has been on the injury report every week since suffering a separated shoulder in the first quarter of the season opener. The offense looked utterly transformed when Worthy returned to the lineup Week 4 — but in Monday’s game, Worthy aggravated a lingering ankle injury. While he was able to return, he was mostly quiet for the rest of the evening.
Meanwhile, the Lions — under the leadership of head coach Dan Campbell — have been transformed into one of the league’s toughest matchups, posting a record of 31-8 since the start of the 2023 season. When former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson left in the offseason to take the head coaching job with the Chicago Bears, there was some doubt whether the Detroit offense would be as effective. But through five weeks, the Lions have averaged 34.8 points per game to lead the league.
Detroit opened the season at +2.5 against the Green Bay Packers before losing 27-13. In Week 2, the Lions bounced back with 50-burger on the Bears, covering their 4.5-point spread seven times over. Despite being 5.5-point underdogs, they beat the Ravens in Week 3, following that up with an impressive victory over the Cleveland Browns, that more than covered the -8.5 point betting line. Then on Sunday, they collected a double-digit win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
