The Pittsburgh Steelers have already made significant changes to their offense this offseason, but one NFL analyst believes another proven playmaker could still be added to the mix.
In a recent piece highlighting logical landing spots for veteran players around the league, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox named free agent wide receiver Deebo Samuel as a potential fit for Pittsburgh.
“Wide receiver Deebo Samuel has recorded just one season of 1,000 or more receiving yards during his NFL career,” Knox
writes. “However, his ability to contribute as both a receiver and a runner has allowed him to top 800 scrimmage yards in six of his seven campaigns.”
Samuel has been one of the NFL’s most versatile offensive weapons since entering the league in 2019. A former First-Team All-Pro, he has excelled as both a receiver and runner, totaling more than 6,000 yards from scrimmage and 43 touchdowns during his career with the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Commanders. While injuries and a reduced role have impacted his production in recent seasons, the 30-year-old still possesses the physical, yards-after-catch ability that made him one of football’s most dangerous offensive players.
From the Steelers’ perspective, Samuel could complement an offense that has undergone a major transformation. Adding Samuel would give the Steelers another experienced weapon capable of lining up all over the formation, creating mismatches as a slot receiver, ball carrier and screen-game option.
Whether such a move is realistic remains to be seen. Personally, I’d be surprised if the Steelers add another wideout, given their affinity for rookie second round pick Germie Bernard. Samuel’s health history should heavily factor into Pittsburgh’s decision-making.
Still, Bleacher Report believes Pittsburgh stands out as one of the more logical destinations, giving the Steelers another intriguing option as they continue building an offense designed to compete in the AFC.
