Mama knows best? … Or worst?
Mega-hyped prospect Bella Mir, daughter of former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight champion Frank Mir, suffered a massive upset loss to Alex Apodaca, dropping a unanimous decision Tuesday night (Aug. 25, 2026) in the main event of Week 3 of Season 10 ofContender Series inside Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mir entered the fight as the biggest women’s betting favorite inContender Serieshistory and one of the largest favorites in MMA history, closing as high
as a staggering -6000 at some sportsbooks.
Apodaca shut Mir down in the second and third rounds to pull off the biggest betting upset in Contender Series history, earning 29-28 scorecards from all three judges and securing a UFC contract in the process.
As of publication, Bella had not publicly commented on the first loss of her professional career. Her mother, Jennifer Mir, however, immediately went to bat for her daughter on social media.
“You lucked out tonight. The judges were OBVIOUSLY in your favor!!!!” Jennifer wrote underneath one of Apodaca’s posts. “Celebrate a win that you didn’t even earn!!!!”
Safe to say, the Internet did not take kindly to the accusation.
Helicopter parenting in combat sports only backfires.
The worst thing you can do as a parent. Your kid is inexperienced, and she lost. Let it go
Never seen cope like this before. Her daughter was the one given a supposed lay-up and was the biggest favourite ever, and she put on an absolute stinker
Din Thomas must be so relieved that MMA fans now have a new person to hate
Can’t even get mad if I was a parent id crash out same way lmfao
Man, Frank Mir’s life must be stressful
Closer to 30-27 for Alex than a 29-28, either way Bella clearly lost the fight and showed she’s just not ready yet
Damn, your daughter had the worst fight of her life. And the mom basically makes it all about herself, terrible
She must be on drugs. That was the easiest 29-28 of all time.
She sounds like a degenerate bettor who lost money via a close decision.
Does she realise that MMA fans will now resent Bella because she is a sore mother of a loser?
She’s making her daughter look so bad bruh chill out pls
This is pure delusion at its finest.
Props to Mama Mir for defending her daughter, but Apodaca clearly won the final two rounds. All three judges agreed, and even UFC CEO Dana White acknowledged that Bella lacked the necessary “deep water experience” after previously finishing three straight opponents in the first round.
In hindsight, Mir may not have been ready for Contender Series with only four professional fights. Nevertheless, she is just 23 years old and has plenty of time to develop into a UFC-caliber fighter, especially with an elite wrestling pedigree capped by an NCAA national championship.
For now, though, it might be time to pump the brakes on becoming a four-sport champion and focus solely on gaining valuable MMA experience.
