One week after producing a career-high 191 yards from scrimmage during his Chiefs debut in Week 1, a total helped by Walker’s league-best 14 broken tackles, he finished with 117 rushing yards on 24 carries and added 61 yards receiving against the Colts. Walker has looked every bit the missing piece capable of taking pressure off of Mahomes on the ground and opening up the passing game.
“We able to, I guess, freestyle it,” Walker told NBC in a postgame interview of his connection with Mahomes. “If I’m open or if somebody open, play break down, he able to make plays, so it’s great to play with him.”

“He’s just still doing it,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes said of Kelce. “He knows how to get open, and he can make guys miss. And so for him to go out there and make the plays that he made in the big moments of the game — that’s who he’s always been.
“And I think just as much as it’s kind of cleaned up the game for me, I think having Kenneth (Walker) and the way he’s running the ball gets him into these matchups that he’s gonna win. And he showed that (Sunday night).”

Jones was not sacked on 35 dropbacks Sunday, and he was pressured on just nine of those plays – the third-lowest rate across Week 2 prior to Monday Night Football. Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo sent 10 blitzes, and Jones completed seven of 10 passes for 89 yards with a touchdown against those looks. Six of those seven passes went for a first down.

After two weeks, the Chiefs have scored 64 points and have the league’s most explosive rushing attack (13.9 percent). They have evolved into a varied rushing attack that can use gap-scheme and zone. They run the ball from under center and from the gun. The run blocking hasn’t been perfect, but Kenneth Walker is breaking tackles at a superhuman rate. The Chiefs average 5.96 yards after contact, which is by far the highest in the league — the next highest is the Ravens (3.95). The Chiefs ranked dead last in this metric in the last two seasons.

The Chiefs’ offense had plenty of issues in 2025, but for at least the last two seasons, the offense simply wasn’t able to convert nearly enough explosive plays. At times, Kansas City could overcome their big-play deficiencies by playing consistent, mistake-free football, but that left them with very little margin for error, and it made quick comebacks even more difficult.
Two games into the 2026 season, it seems like that won’t be an issue this year.

“We’ll know more [Tuesday],” coach John Harbaugh said. Regarding the reported sprained MCL, he said, “That’s in the neighborhood of it. We’ll get an MRI [Tuesday] and have a real good feel for it.”
Dart, who was unavailable for comment after the game, was hurt while being pressured on third-and-8. Rams linebacker Byron Young hit Dart from the quarterback’s right side, sending him into linebacker Josaiah Stewart as he tried to tackle Dart, who landed hard on the turf.

Johnson later told reporters the Bears received a “somewhat encouraging” report about Williams’ injury, adding that the QB may not practice this week.
Williams exited Sunday’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after coming up lame on a scramble in the fourth quarter. The QB was emotional while being carted off the field but was reportedly seen in the locker room later walking without aid and only a “slight limp.”

The team placed rookie TE Eli Stowers on IR at the start of the season, and Grant Calcaterra was put on IR at the end of training camp. With just Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins left, the TE room gets an immediate boost by adding Ertz.
The former Eagles draft pick has spent his time away from Philly with the Cardinals and Commanders, and has been a consistent factor in the redzone — regardless of the overall effectiveness of those offenses. Ertz is also just 11 receptions away from breaking Harold Carmichael’s franchise record (589) in Philadelphia to become the team’s leader all-time in catches.

Emmett Johnson will make Kenneth Walker better
If you want to wear down an opposing defense, throw an absolute unit like Kenneth Walker at them 25 or more times a game and watch their will to make contact deteriorate.
But if you want to absolutely obliterate them, then bring in another running back who is almost as talented as Walker.
Johnson’s vision, lateral agility, and contact balance make him just as hard to bring down.
The one-two punch of Walker and Johnson is only going to get better as the year progresses, and we saw tonight what happens when an opposing defense has to respect the run first when Mahomes is on the field cooking.
