The 2027 NFL Draft feels like forever away, and we’re all caught up in the start of the NFL season. Regardless, it’s never too early to look ahead to the Draft. This weekly series will take a closer look at some of the prospects the Carolina Panthers could select in the 2027 iteration of the Draft. In this series, we’ll only be looking at prospects the Panthers could seriously consider. This week our profile will focus on Texas Longhorns offensive tackle Trevor Goosby.
Bio
Goosby (6’7”, 312 lbs.) is a
third generation Texas Longhorn, following in the footsteps of his mother and her father, among other family members. Doctors found a heart defect he was born with, leading to him undergoing open heart surgery his sophomore year of high school. Since then, he has had no issues and even continued being an absolutely unreal athlete for his size. Athleticism runs in the family: his younger brother is a freshman on the Texas basketball team after being a McDonald’s All-American and his great uncle is NFL Hall of Famer Dick “Night Train” Lane. Goosby took over at left tackle in 2025, earning First Team All-SEC honors, allowing just three sacks. He has started strong so far in 2026, continuing to raise his draft stock week by week.
Strengths/Weaknesses
Goosby’s main trait is his athleticism, being the fastest lineman in the class. At over 300 lbs., he ran a 4.80 forty yard dash and was clocked at 21 mph via GPS in offseason workouts. He has the size to stick at tackle, especially left tackle, as he is every bit the 6’7” he is listed at while boasting an 82” inch wingspan. His run and pass blocking technique are both near the top of the class, and he has a ton of experience against SEC competition entering his second year as the full time starter at left tackle.
While his technique is good, he does tend to get out-leveraged by shorter, stronger defenders. His anchor is still developing, and 312 lbs. is considered a bit light for the tackle position at the next level. Some scouts have questions about his strength, but that could be mitigated by fixing his anchor/leverage issues.
Projection
Goosby is probably the best athlete among the offensive line prospects in this Draft. He earned all conference honors as a first year starter as a redshirt sophomore, so he should continue to improve this season. The Panthers just spent a first round pick on an offensive tackle in Monroe Freeling, and the first round is where Goosby is all but guaranteed to go in April. With the offensive line injuries and struggles this season, the Panthers should definitely invest in getting younger and cheaper at the position. Taylor Moton’s future, Icky Ekwonu’s injury, and Monroe Freeling’s growth will all factor into how much the Panthers will want to invest there.
What do you think, Panthers fans? If Trevor Goosby is available when the Panthers select in the 2027 NFL Draft, should they take him? Sound off in the comments!
