The 6’11”, 212 lb Greek native comes to Carolina from Panathinaikos, a club competing in Greece’s top professional league as well as the EuroLeague. 21 years old, Samodurov has represented Greece on their U20 team as well as the national team. At UNC, he projects to share minutes with Sayon Keita in the middle, with stretch 4 possibility in the mix as well. While Samodurov’s a talent capable of starting at most college programs, he likely will be coming off the bench for the Tar Heels.
Draft boards
this cycle had Samodurov rated as highly as 41 (The Athletic), while he didn’t appear on others. In 2025’s FIBA Eurobasket U20 tournament, Alexandros averaged 17.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game, earning him a spot on the tournament’s All-Star Five. On the national team this season, he averaged 15.5 minutes, 4.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and an assist across nine games.
Samodurov joins Keita, transfer Cade Bennerman, and returner Jarin Stevenson in the likely frontcourt rotations next season. The rest of the roster now includes transfers Neoklis Avdalas, who played for the same Greek club, Matt Able, and Terrence Brown. Maximo Adams, a top 20 high school recruit, and Malloy Smith will join as freshmen. Isaiah Denis and Jaydon Young return from last season and round out the roster’s top 11 spots.
With this addition, the roster next season seems set. What do you think?
