Kyren Williams joined in an interview with Kay Adams during Los Angeles Rams training camp, where Adams expressed that she was worried for the Rams because they are the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Can the team live up to those high expectations?
Williams responded to Adams’s concerns with a grounded approach to the lofty prediction by expressing that none of that noise matters. Not yet.
Williams even expands on his mostly grounded approach with a little philosophy. Life moves one day at a time,
and that is where the Rams should focus should lie: One day at a time.
Said Williams to Adams about L.A.’s projections to hoist the Lombardi Trophy this February:
“None of that stuff matters right now. We’re in training camp. We can’t play the Super Bowl tomorrow. We can’t play the first game tomorrow. Only thing we an worry about is getting through today, and hopefully tomorrow, hopefully tomorrow comes…if it does then we got another chance to get better, but we’re not worried about whenever the Super Bowl is. We’re just worried about this training camp and getting better each and every single day.”
Fans and talking heads can fantasize about the Super Bowl, but NFL players have to make that fantasy a reality. Williams knows his team is favored, he can simply look around the locker room and know they have some of the best talent in the NFL, but favored, not favored, who cares? What matters in the business of the NFL is who actually earns the win, not who’s favored to win.
Williams is right, L.A. being favored in July/August doesn’t matter. L.A. finding a way to win the whole thing? That matters. Will the Rams live up to those high goals? Adams seems worried that it’s not likely. Williams seems focused on trying to make it happen.
Like it or not, just like Williams says, the season will come one day at a time, while the Super Bowl will be played one day, whether the Rams are there or not.
