Bayern Munich went into this match in Cyprus as heavy favorites, and deservedly so. With their current run of form, it would be impossible for nearly any team to stop Bayern. Unfortunately for Pafos, they
played the wrong team at the wrong time.
Nicolas Jackson finally delivered
The loan of Nicolas Jackson this season has been highly criticized, given the large loan fee, but today things took a more pleasant note. The Chelsea talent finally pitched in with a goal and an assist. An empty display and things might have begun to turn sour for him. Hopefully, this is the sign of things to come, but fans shouldn’t get too excited quite yet.
Kompany is willing to rotate (somewhat)
Vincent Kompany rotated by bringing in Nicolas Jackson and Raphaël Guerreiro to the lineup. This is a decent amount of rotation to rest players like Serge Gnabry and Jonathan Tah. However, many will be disappointed that Tom Bischof and Lennart Karl were only substituted into the match in the dying minutes, with not much time to leave a lasting impact.
Pafos was no match for the Bavarians
Pafos put in an admirable effort. Simply put, Bayern Munich is on a different operating level, especially considering their current form under Kompany. When Bayern is rolling over top sides like RB Leipzig, it was never going to be pretty for Pafos, but they held their heads up high.
Pafos certainly got dominated in every possible metric, but scoring a goal on home soil was a nice gift for the home fans. Unfortunately for them, they won’t see much success in the Champions League this season.
