The Miami Dolphins fell apart against the Carolina Panthers in Week 5. A strong start, including a 17-0 lead, turned into a 27-24 loss as the Dolphins could not stop anything Carolina wanted to do, especially
on the ground as running back Rico Dowdle rushed for 206 yards. It was tough to watch and it left the fan base angry and frustrated.
Those feelings came out in this week’s SB Nation Reacts fan confidence poll. Ahead of the game, coming off the team’s first win of the season as they beat the New York Jets in Week 4, the fan confidence rating had jumped from just nine percent of the fans trusting the direction of the team to 32 percent. Nearly one-third of the fans were climbing back on board the bandwagon and were starting to think the Dolphins were going to turn things around. Then Miami collapsed in Week 5 and the fan confidence has followed that collapse.
After reaching 32 percent last week, the fan confidence rating screamed past the nine percent mark from Week 4, crashing down to just five percent of the respondents saying they are confident in the direction of the team. That ties Week 2 for the second-lowest rating all time in our poll. Only Week 3’s three-percent mark has ever been lower over the years we have run this poll.
Miami returns home this week looking to figure out what is happening with the team this year. They have the Los Angeles Chargers, the current AFC West leader and fourth in the playoff picture, coming to Hard Rock Stadium. Will they be able to come away with a win and maybe save a season on the brink of completely falling apart? Where will the fan confidence poll land next week?
