The Seattle Seahawks will need veteran leadership to right their ship in Week 4 after a loss to the Washington Commanders, at least according to the team’s captains, which were announced on Friday.
Seattle announced that Cooper Kupp, Mike Morris, Nehemiah Pritchett and former Los Angeles Charger Uchenna Nwosu will have the honors of being captains on Sunday. Between the four of them, they represent 26 years of experience in the NFL, though the majority of that stems from Kupp (10) and Nwosu (9).
This
is every player’s first selection this season and marks the first time that Pritchett, who is stepping up to replace Riq Woolen at starting cornerback, has been named a captain. Pritchett had an interception in Week 1 and has anchored an injured secondary through three games.
Nwosu being named captain is an obvious choice as he was a second-round pick by the Chargers in 2018 before signing with the Seahawks in 2022. In addition to the bit of gamesmanship, Nwosu has become a fan-favorite in Seattle after he propelled a terrible pass-rush in 2022 and became a key part of the “Dark Side” defense. Not to mention his hit on Drake Maye in the Super Bowl, which led to a game clinching interception.
Kupp, the lone offensive representative, has the second most receiving yards of any Seahawks player. The Eastern Washington alum has proven that he still has juice left to squeeze this season after a decade in the league, recording an immaculate catch in Week 1 and being a reliable target in clutch moments.
Lastly, Morris, who is repping the special teams, returned to the lineup last week against the Commanders. The Seahawks fifth-round pick has been a staple of the team’s defensive line rotation the last two seasons, recording two TFLs and 23 tackles in that time frame.
These four will lead the Seahawks onto the field as they face the winless Chargers at Lumen Field on Sunday at 1:25 p.m.
