Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about Mizzou Basketball.
Despite losing its last two matchups, Mizzou Basketball still secured a bye in the SEC Tournament meaning it won’t have to play in the opening round on Wednesday. The Tigers will play the winner of 16th seed LSU vs. 9th seed Kentucky. Not an ideal draw for them considering if they would’ve won in overtime against Arkansas they would’ve secured a double bye. Here’s a look at the rest of the tournament:
If the Tigers can get past (most likely) Kentucky, then they’d play Florida, who is a -180 favorite to win the entire tourney. Definitely a hard path but Mizzou needs to take it one game at a time. Who knows how far the Tigers could fall if they lose a third straight game in the SEC Tourney. I think the overtime loss to Arkansas arguably secured them a spot at the dance, but no promises they are safe of the First Four in Dayton.
Today Mizzou will find out who decides their NCAA Tournament fate whenever the Kentucky/LSU matchup finishes up at 11:30 a.m. in Nashville.
We have more discussion on football and basketball, diving into prospects, visits and PFF grades in the Rock M+ forums.

For the second straight year, Mark Mitchell has been awarded SEC honors. The senior has landed on the second team — per an announcement on Monday.
No surprise here. Without Mark Mitchell, who knows where the Tigers would be. (My guess is not in the NCAA Tournament conversation)
It was a disappointing finish to a conference season that started with a lot of promise, and saw plenty of bumps along the way. But considering where things stood at the end of December, they got enough results out of conference play to put them back into the NCAA Tournament. All things considered, I guess you would consider that a success.
I think the Tigers did a good job proving everybody wrong after a not-so-impressive nonconference schedule. Not the momentum you are looking for heading into tourney play though.
Can Hardy get to 1,800 yards? 20 touchdowns? A cool 50% success rate? As a Missouri Tiger there’s a 70% chance he regresses, but as an SEC player there’s a 71% chance he gets better!
Interesting column from Nate. I think Hardy has what it takes to continue improving, along with the offensive line that he needs, but it’s only a matter of time till we find out.
It’s easy to get photos of the batter but not always easy to make them good, or in this case to be already focusing on the batter as he bunts (unless you know enough about baseball strategy to know when a bunt is likely to happen). Because swings are more common than bunts, a photo like this stands out more to me than the average swinging photo, sometimes regardless of whether or not the batter makes contact unless it’s a big play that has a strong impact on the game.
Hannah puts a lot of time into these photo stories and this one turned out great, which features photographs by Rock M photographer Margo Jenkins. Be sure to check it out!
- SBN Reacts from Sammy Stava: What is Mizzou Basketball’s Ceiling if Tigers make the NCAA Tournament?
Per BracketMatrix, Missouri is the last No. 10 seed. Mizzou’s postseason will begin on Thursday in the 2nd Round of the SEC Tournament against either Kentucky or LSU. A win would solidify an at-large bid, but a loss could very well mean the Tigers are being shipped to Dayton for the First Four.
I’m with this projection. I think the Tigers really need a win in the SEC Tournament to
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzou football discussion and basketball discussion with the offseason picking up for football, and SEC play in full motion for basketball.
From Rock M Radio: Dive Cuts
The regular season is over, and the Missouri Tigers finished 20-11, and 10-8 in the SEC conference, tied for 7th. It was a disappointing week where the Tigers went 0-2 to finish conference play out with losses at Oklahoma and at home to Arkansas in Overtime.
But despite the poor results of the last week, the Tigers didn’t harm their NCAA Tournament chances, as most bracketologists have them still hanging around a 10 seed. The guys take a look back at the disappointing week, and ahead to the SEC Tournament.
