Bayern Munich have started the 2026/27 season with silverware after defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, but what stood out to you most from the victory?
There were plenty of positives for Vincent Kompany’s side. Bayern Munich controlled large portions of the match and looked particularly impressive during the first half, when they established a 2-0 advantage.
Nathaniel Brown could hardly have asked for a better competitive debut. The summer arrival opened the scoring
with a composed finish, immediately giving Bayern Munich supporters something to be excited about. Michael Olise then doubled the lead, continuing to show why he could be one of the most important attacking players in Kompany’s system.
There were also encouraging performances elsewhere across the team, with Bayern Munich showing the ability to dictate possession and create chances against a Dortmund side that improved significantly after halftime.
That second half, however, could provide something for Kompany to address. Fábio Silva’s goal gave Dortmund momentum and turned what had looked like a comfortable Bayern Munich victory into a nervy finish. Bayern Munich ultimately held on and demonstrated the composure needed to close out the match.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway is simply that Bayern Munich already look ready to compete. It was not a perfect performance, but the team showed quality, resilience and enough attacking threat to secure the first trophy of the campaign.
So, what was your biggest takeaway from Bayern Munich’s 2-1 victory over Dortmund? Was it Brown’s debut, Olise’s performance, Bayern Munich’s control, the response to Dortmund’s second-half pressure, or something else?
