By now, it’s no secret that Real Madrid, along with several of Europe’s top clubs, have expressed keen interest in trying to pry away Michael Olise from Bayern Munich. The La Liga giants came out and released on official club statement denying any sort of contact between the club, Olise, and his representatives amidst the transfer rumors and Bayern president Herbert Hainer had said Florentino Perez was wasting his time. The stance from Bayern has been clear — Olise is NOT for sale under any circumstances,
regardless of how big of an offer a club like Real Madrid might be willing to put on the table.
Nonetheless, after France’s Round of 16 victory over Paraguay in Philadelphia, Olise’s Bayern and France teammate Dayot Upamecano was asked about Real Madrid being linked Bayern’s number 17 by Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (via @iMiaSanMia). When Hau asked Upamecano if he’s advised Olise against a departure from Bayern, the center back quickly replied, “he’s staying, he’s staying,” with a smile on his face as he began to walk away.
Upamecano himself just recently signed a contract extension at Bayern that will keep him with the German Rekordmeister through 2030 and sees that he now earns roughly 20 million euros per year. It also, with the strong push from his representatives in the negotiations for the new deal, includes a release clause woth 65 million euros that Bayern was initially reluctant to give him.
For Olise, Bayern 100% plans on offering him a new deal at some point and it’s one of their top priorities in addition to sorting out a new deal for Harry Kane. They’re reportedly prepared to offer the winger a yearly salary of up to 25 million euros with an aim to tie him down to the club until 2031 — they’ll really have to pull out all the stops to stave off interest from other clubs and keep Olise happy at a club where he’s already won everything there is to win bar the Champions League.
He currently leads the World Cup with his five assists as France are on course to be in the mix for getting to the final as many expected them to before a ball was even kicked in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Even more impressively, he’s at that current tally coming off of a season where he tallied 22 goals and 31 assists from 52 appearances across all competitions, so it’s absolutely no shock that he’s on the radar of top clubs.
