Welcome to The Linc, the daily Philadelphia Eagles links roundup at Bleeding Green Nation!
Lol. Something makes me believe that teams aren’t exactly lining up to trade for a guy who just got benched for Joe Milton! But the Eagles might as well let teams know he’s available and see what they can get for an impending free agent.
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
2027 NFL Trade Deadline: What We’re Hearing on Jonathan Taylor, Other Moves – SI
Eagles have players available. The Eagles’
six-game losing streak obviously opens up the possibility that they’d move some contract-year vets, and Hollywood Brown, Riq Woolen, Dallas Goedert, Michael Carter II and now Tanner McKee are among those perceived by other teams to be available. Ojomo, also in a contract year, is a different story. In fact, Howie Roseman has given other teams the impression that he’ll try to sign Ojomo, who’s gotten very strong interest, long term, despite the fact that he’s already got DTs Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis on big second deals.
What Joe Milton III is chasing in first Eagles start as Tanner McKee heads back to bench – The Athletic
Milton needed to be fast enough to chase rabbits in his native Pahokee, Fla. — a local tradition during the burning of sugarcane fields. Milton even has a rabbit tattoo to honor his hometown, although he conceded Thursday that he wasn’t a frequent rabbit chaser. “We’re known for chasing rabbits in the muck,” Milton said. “And chasing rabbits, you’re fast or you’re not. You either catch a rabbit or you’re not. You have a lot of people in Pahokee who catch with their hands, and a lot of people use cane sticks. … My mom really didn’t let me do it for real, just because I had bad asthma when I was younger. “So, with all the cane smoke and everything out there with tractors, they don’t see us when you’re out there chasing rabbits, so anything can happen. So my mom really didn’t allow me out there as much. I probably can count on my hand how many times I went to rabbit hunting. But for the time I did, it was great.”
10 things you need to know about new Eagles quarterback Joe Milton – NBCSP
Milton’s cousin is Anquan Bolden, the long-time Arizona Cardinals wide receiver, who caught 1,076 passes for 13,779 yards in his 14-year career. Both went to Pahokee, Fla., High School, also the alma mater of long-time Eagles safety Andre Waters. Another cousin of Milton’s is Kevin Bouie, the Eagles’ 7th-round pick out of Mississippi State. Bouie, who also attended Pahokee High School, never got into a regular-season game for the Eagles but played for the Chargers in 1996 and Cards in 1997.
Joe Milton: ‘This is a great opportunity’ – PhiladelphiaEagles.com
The decision to make the switch at starting quarterback for the Eagles on Sunday against the New York Giants, sudden to those on the outside, is part of what the NFL is all about, says Joe Milton. He is, he says, excited of course and relishing the opportunity without question, but this is how the league works. You’d better be prepared when your number is called. “That’s the thing,” Milton said on Thursday following his press conference at the Jefferson Health Training Complex. “We all know that you have to be ready to be on the field at all times. So, I’m going to be ready on Sunday. We still have work to do and time to get everything we need to do in order, so we’re going to keep chipping away and then on Sunday go out there and play our game against the New York Giants.”
Jason Kelce refutes rumor that Eagles players wanted Jeff Stoutland out of Philly – BGN
Earlier in his rant, Kelce also made note that when seasons start come crashing down, people will start leaking things like this to avoid responsibility. The future Hall of Famer was not having any of it, and made it clear that the decision to move on from one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL was a team decision, not something that came from the players.
NFC East Mixtape VOL. 204: Can the Giants separate themselves? – NFC East Mixtape
As we make our way through this NFL season it is starting to feel more and more likely that the New York Giants are going to win the NFC East. Can you believe it? This is a big week for them in that quest as they are taking on a Philadelphia Eagles team that has made a move to Joe Milton at quarterback. Milton is a former member of the Dallas Cowboys and if the division is going to have any real kind of race then they are going to have to find a way to win as overwhelming favorites against the Indianapolis Colts, but winning as the favored team is hardly their specialty. Elsewhere the Washington Commanders are looking to build momentum by taking on the Los Angeles Rams. Is it possible, or are they doomed? RJ Ochoa and Brandon Lee Gowton discuss on the latest episode of the NFC East Mixtape! You can see that we have a BRAND NEW NFC East Mixtape YouTube Channel so make sure to subscribe as the show will live here exclusively in video format. AND you can also listen to the show! Recapping the Eagles’ 2026 quarterback circus, midway through the season – PhillyVoice
Tanner McKee lost all three of his starts, mostly while playing in the same backfield with practice squad running backs, throwing to an assortment of backup receivers behind a makeshift offensive line in a nonsensical scheme. He had not been set up for success, to put it mildly. But also, his style of play is not going to elevate the players around him, and he’s not really capable of making off-schedule plays when the circumstances around him aren’t pristine. And so, the Eagles made yet another switch, promoting Milton to the starter, and demoting McKee.
Fantasy football last-minute pickups: Kaelon Black and Malik Willis lead the way – ESPN
J.J. McCarthy, New York Giants (26.6% rostered; at Philadelphia Eagles). McCarthy scored 10.18 points in Week 7, completing 20-of-28 for 252 yards. McCarthy failed to throw a touchdown, and the rushing totals were down (one carry, one yard), but he is seeing the field with speed and driving the ball from the pocket. With a matchup Sunday versus an Eagles defense that ranks in the bottom 10 versus quarterbacks, McCarthy has value in superflex formats.
NFL Trade Deadline: Biggest needs for all 32 teams – PFF
Philadelphia Eagles: Draft Capital. The retirement of Lane Johnson and injury to Jalen Hurts have pushed this into a lost season for the Philadelphia Eagles. They have already been sellers this season, trading center Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens for a 2028 second-round draft pick, and it would make sense for them to move interior defensive lineman Moro Ojomo, too, given that he is on an expiring contract.
NFL Week 9 picks: Upset and score predictions, matchup breakdowns for every game – NFL.com
Why Jeremy picked the Giants: In a meeting of former Michigan Men, J.J. McCarthy and Joe Milton III (backups on other franchises in September) will renew one of the NFL’s fiercest rivalries to kick off November. McCarthy will get his second start leading the Giants offense, while Milton, on his third team, will see his first-ever NFL start for Philadelphia after being called on to replace an ineffective Tanner McKee. The G-Men have played close games under John Harbaugh — they’ve entered the last minute of each of their tilts separated on one score or less, save for the Rams debacle — and this one should be no different, even against a beat-up Eagles side. Philly historically plays New York well at home — the Giants have dropped 12 straight at a hostile Lincoln Financial Field — and the infusion of Milton to the offense could provide a spark for Nick Sirianni’s squad. Milton is a bomb-thrower, averaging the second-most air yards per attempt since 2024 (min. 50 attempts) in his relief appearances. McCarthy has had a similar run of play in his six quarters with Big Blue, helping make Malik Nabers the reigning Offensive Player of the Month. There will be big plays and maybe bigger mistakes made in Sunday’s game, but unlike the injury-riddled Eagles, the ’26 Giants know how to win tight tussles and should ride the Amtrak back to New Jersey victorious.
An investigation regarding the Jalen Hurts situation has not begun – PFT
A widespread presumption has emerged that the NFL and NFL Players Association have commenced a joint investigation into the care and recommendations Hurts received from team and league doctors. However, the investigation has yet to start. The statement issued by the league and the NFLPA said only that they are “working together to review the matter.” A formal investigation has not yet begun, of any kind. The union has the right under the Collective Bargaining Agreement to initiate an investigation. That hasn’t happened, either. If the NFLPA will be working with the NFL in any official investigation, it’s critical that the union insist on a process that will be fair, objective, and transparent. It can’t be a CYA exercise.
Giants-Eagles matchup: How does QB Joe Milton change the equation? – Big Blue View
The 4-2-1 New York Giants travel to Philadelphia this weekend to face the 2–6 Philadelphia Eagles, who enter the matchup on a six-game losing streak. Philadelphia is coming off a disappointing 27–10 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football in Week 8. Things are unraveling in Philadelphia. The Eagles are dealing with a rash of injuries and have switched from quarterback Tanner McKee to Joe Milton. Head coach Nick Sirianni is facing mounting questions from the media about offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, while general manager Howie Roseman has traded valuable assets in exchange for draft capital. To put it simply, things are far from sunny in Philadelphia. Still, the Eagles will look to defend their home turf against a Giants franchise that hasn’t won at Lincoln Financial Field since 2013. New York enters the matchup well-rested after its bye week, presenting an opportunity to snap that frustrating losing streak. And with the John Harbaugh era bringing a different identity and renewed expectations to the Giants, this team may finally have what it takes to change the narrative.
Cowboys injuries: Caleb Downs upgraded to limited – Blogging The Boys
The Cowboys mat be down a few starters and rotation players for the game. Jake Ferguson (Ankle) and rookie Malachi Lawrence (Ankle) were unable to practice again today, with Lawrence almost certainly going to miss the game. Safeties Caleb Downs (Concussion/Ankle), and PJ Locke (Concussion) got some work in today. Both were elevated to limited participants after sitting out yesterday. As of today KaVontae Turpin is still out with a rib injury. Meanwhile, George Pickens (Hamstring), Luke Schoonmaker (Groin), and Tyler Smith (Ankle) were limited again today. Joey Porter Jr. (Ankle) was downgraded to limited participation, as was DeMarvion Overshown (Hamstring/Back). In the good news, linebacker Dee Winters (Calf) was a full particpant.
Commanders vs. Rams Thursday injury report: Johnny Newton trending up – Hogs Haven
The Commanders need reinforcements along the defensive line, like, in the worst possible way. Daron Payne is done for the season. Javon Kinlaw’s also on injured reserve. That’s why the fact that Johnny Newton practiced in full for a second straight day matters so much. He’s working to come off injured reserve, with his 21-day practice window having been opened up last week. There’s no guarantee that he’ll return in time for Sunday afternoon’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, but the odds seem better with him working so much in practice. He’s returning from a pectoral injury suffered during the preseason.
A.J. Brown knee injury ‘raises some concerns’ about Patriots future – Pats Pulpit
“Let’s go back to the offseason, when Philadelphia was shopping A.J. Brown and they were talking to teams,” Schefter said. “One of the reasons that I believe there wasn’t more interest was there were some teams that had some questions about his knee. In fact, when they were advanced discussions for a trade with the Los Angeles Rams that was at one point close to being completed … I think the Rams had some concerns about his knee. The concerns that other teams have had have now manifested themselves in New England this season. It flared up. … The knee held him out last week, and the knee is threatening to hold him out this week. It’s a knee that I think raises some concerns as to how long he’s going to keep playing here in New England, and producing at a high level.”
Vikings to Start Carson Wentz at Quarterback Against Bills – Daily Norseman
Going into their Week 9 Monday Night showdown with the Buffalo Bills, the Minnesota Vikings are making a change at the quarterback position. The team has announced that Kyler Murray will be out this week with a hamstring injury, meaning that Carson Wentz will take over behind center when the team welcomes the Bills to town this week.
Ravens place QBs Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley on injured reserve – Baltimore Ravens
The Eagles own the Ravens’ fifth-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. The Eagles benefit from Baltimore continuing to lose.
The Baltimore Ravens placed quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley on injured reserve on Thursday ahead of their Week 9 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jackson is set to undergo thumb surgery with discouraging reports but no firm timeline from the team regarding his potential return later this year. Huntley’s turf toe is thought to be season-ending, though again, the Ravens have yet to confirm. Both will miss a minimum of four games after landing on IR, making them eligible to return after Baltimore’s Week 13 bye.
Panthers bring in former 4th-round pick, ex-Eagles CB for visit on Thursday – Panthers Wire
UPDATE: The Panthers signed Jakorian Bennett to their practice squad.
Per the league transaction wire, the team brought in fourth-year corner Jakorian Bennett for a visit on Thursday. Bennett is fresh off clearing waivers after being let go by the Philadelphia Eagles two days ago.
NFL Expert Picks for Week 9 – SB Nation
After this weekend we are officially into the back-half of the season. What have we learned so far? The NFC North is really good, the NFC South is really bad, and the NFC West is going to be a brawl to the very end. Let’s look at where the picks fell in those divisions this week. The NFC North is going to get even tricker this week if things play out how the picks are predicting. We have the Lions and Bears winning easily, with the Packers having a toss-up against the Patriots, and the Vikings getting beaten by the Bills. If Green Bay wins this would put the Bears at six wins, and every other team at six. Have fun.
