Sorry this is late, a busy day for the editor delayed it. This is the recap for Saturday, September 6th’s games.
Columbus Clippers 12, Indianapolis Indians 0
Clippers improve to 56-76
No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana has done well getting on base ever since he was promoted to Triple-A, but he hadn’t quite dazzled with his bat yet — until Saturday. Bazzana had one of the best games of his professional career, going 3-for-5 with two home runs.
With elite walk rate and a recent spike in power, Bazzana now has the best OPS on the Clippers roster at .876, higher than fellow teammates Will Wilson and Johnathan Rodriguez, who both have seen MLB action this year.
Speaking of Rodriguez, he had a great game too, going 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk.
Kody Huff added a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk while Petey Halpin and Wilson both singled and walked. Christian Cairo also walked twice.
The Clippers go tsome great pitching as well. Starting pitcher Doug Nikhazy went 2.0 scoreless frames with three strikeouts and Will Dion followed with 4.0 scoreless innings of long relief. Matt Krook and Bradley Hanner closed things with 3.0 scoreless innings.
Akron RubberDucks 6, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 2
RubberDucks improve to 73-57
Guy Lipscomb led the way for Akron’s offense on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base. Alex Mooney also had two hits with a double while Angel Genao went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Christian Knapczyk also walked twice.
After a disastrous outing last time out, starting pitcher Khal Stephen bounced back impressively by allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts and a walk in 4.0 innings.
Steven Perez added 3.0 scoreless, hitless innings with a pair of strikeouts and Alaska Abney gave up a run while pitching the final two innings to close out the victory.
Lake County Captains 2, Great Lakes Loons 9
Captains fall to 74-57
Lake County had a rough day Saturday, with just two bright spots on offense. One was Ryan Cesarini, who stayed hot by going 2-for-5 with a double. The other was Esteban Gonzalez, who went 1-for-2 with three walks and a stolen base. Nick Mitchell also singled, walked and stole a base.
Starting pitcher Jogly Garcia gave up two runs on two hits with six strikeouts and a walk in 3.1 innings. Piggy-back partner Rafe Schlesinger was knocked around for three runs on two hits with six more strikeouts and four walks in 4.1 additional innings.
The ugliest pitching performance went to converted outfielder Tyler Naquin, who was hammered for three runs after walking five batters and allowing one hit in just 0.1 innings. He also allowed a pair of inherited runners to score to make Schlesinger’s day look worse.
Lynchburg Hillcats 5, Delmarva Shorebirds 4
Hillcats improve to 70-59
Cleveland’s 2025 draft picks helped carry the Hillcats to another victory on Saturday. It started with second round competitive balance pick Aaron Walton, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two walks out of the leadoff position, setting the table perfectly for his team. He also stole a base.
Anthony Martinez also had a multi-hit day, going 2-for-4 with a walk while second round pick Dean Curley singled and walked. Yaikel Mijares also walked twice and stole a base.
Starting pitcher Jacob Zibin gave up three runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk in 4.0 innings. Raudy Rivera added 3.0 scoreless innings of long relief with four strikeouts and Cam Schuelke closed things out by allowing one run in the game’s final two innings.
