In Dodgers minor league action, late scrap heap addition Andrew Heaney pitched his second scoreless three-inning set, the Comets put five balls into orbit, and the Drillers failed to solve switch-pitcher and scrabble deity Jurrangelo Cijntje.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Like father, like son, while the major league Dodgers were beating up on the Giants, winning by the score of 10-2, the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, the Oklahoma City Comets, was battering the Giants’ affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats,
winning by the score of 12-2. Andrew Heaney, coming off his first appearance with the Comets when he struck out eight in three innings, added three more scoreless innings, needing just 38 pitches to get nine outs while giving up just a single and a walk. Ben Casparius got credited with the win, pitching a perfect eighth inning while striking out two.
The Comets’ offense zwacked River Cats starter Nick Swack for six runs in two and one-third innings, including four home runs, two by Luken Baker, and one from Ryan Ward and Alex Freeland. Dalton Rushing had three hits for the game, including a double. Everyone in the Comets lineup had at least one hit, with five players getting at least two.
Double-A Tulsa
The Tulsa Drillers faced Arkansas Travelers (Mariners) switch pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje, and with a name like that, it makes sense he throws with both arms. The Drillers couldn’t hit either arm, as Cijntje held them scoreless for four innings, after Arkansas put up a couple of runs in the top of the first inning. The Drillers could only score a single run, on a home run by Zach Ehrhard, and fell by the final score of 7-1. Zyhir Hope had two hits, giving him five in his last two games, and pushing his Double-A batting average to .316. Josue De Paula went 0-for-4, and is still looking for his first Double-A hit, now 0-for-18 since being promoted to the Drillers.
