The James Franklin era in Happy Valley is over. After starting the season 3-3 and being in the midst of a three-game losing streak that included back-to-back losses as 20+ point favorites, Penn State is firing
James Franklin, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.
There is no other information out as of this writing, as far as the interim head coach, if anyone else on the staff was also fired, or what the buyout situation is. But after 104 wins over 149 games, James Franklin is no longer the head football coach of the Nittany Lions.
We will have TONS of think pieces this week — Eli essentially wrote the obituary for Franklin’s tenure earlier today — and we’ll get a head coach hot board going as well. But man, this is a bizarre feeling and it is sad this is how it all ended for Franklin. It was the necessary move for Penn State, but I truly felt no happiness seeing that tweet hit.
