The second season of Netflix’s docuseries WWE UnReal, which purports to pull back the curtain on the secret world of pro wrestling — or at least WWE’s creative process, drops in a couple weeks. Tues.,
Jan. 20 to be specific.
Rumors (and common sense, or whatever it is we’ve developed from watching a lot of rasslin’) told us that the injury fake out that led to Seth Rollins winning the WWE World Heavyweight championship at SummerSlam last year, and the shoot-turned-work sage of R-Truth’s near-exit from WWE would be major focuses of UnReal season two. The above trailer confirms that. It also gives us a taste of the storylines for other talent featured in the new season, like Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, Pat McAfee, Jelly Roll, IYO SKY, Naomi, Chelsea Green, Penta, and Lyra Valkyria.
We’ve also wondered if things like Rollins’ “Ruse of the Century” weren’t done with UnReal in mind. The trailer opens with Paul Heyman telling us he dislikes the concept of the show — a sentiment we know some in the business share. Heyman’s also someone who wants to evolve kayfabe, and may have pushed for the Rollins injury program as a way to do that in the Netflix Era. Will the next batch of UnReal episodes help us confirm or deny that theory?
Check out the trailer above and let us know what you think.
