After a frustrating game against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, the Colorado Avalanche took on the Seattle Kraken tonight to begin a two-game road trip. The visitors scored early and often to end up winning by a final score of 5-1.
Let’s take a look at the action from tonight!
First Period
Martin Necas would get the party started first (excuse the pun), with his 30th goal of the season. Nathan MacKinnon would find Necas wide open on a backdoor play with a beautiful cross-ice pass, and Necas made no mistake and beat
Joey Daccord clean to take the early lead.
MacKinnon would make it 2-0 Colorado after that, as Necas returned the favor and found him with a great cross-ice pass. MacKinnon would then take the puck around and behind the Kraken net, and was loooking to hit Nazem Kadri on a backdoor play, but the puck deflected in off a Seattle player instead.
Nic Roy would make it 3-0 on the power play with just over a minute left in the first period, as he was able to pick up the puck as it was sitting right on the doorstep.
Second Period
It wasn’t all perfect as Colorado’s power play would give up yet another shorthanded goal in this game, as Ryker Evans would rip the puck right past Scott Wedgewood to make it 3-1.
It didn’t take long for Nazem Kadri to get the goal back as his first goal in an Avalanche uniform since his return, making it 4-1 Colorado and restoring the three-goal lead before the end of the period.
Third Period
It was pretty much all over by the time the third period began but Joel Kiviranta would add another and make it 5-1 in Colorado’s favor, which would be the final score, as he got a piece of a shot from Josh Manson at the top of the zone, and deflected it past Grubauer.
Takeaways
After a frustrating game two nights ago, it was really nice to see this response from Colorado against the Kraken. Your top guys showed up and showed out once again, as Nathan MacKinnon ended up with four points on the night, and Martin Necas had another two on top of that. Scott Wedgewood had another super strong performance as well, which was awesome to see, and it was awesome to see Nazem Kadri get his first goal after getting traded back to Colorado as well. It was a great bounce-back effort from the Avs all around, and they can hopefully bring that same kind of effort against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
Upcoming
The Avs continue this small, two-game road trip on Saturday, as they head to Winnipeg to take on the Jets. Puck drop will be at 2:00 p.m. MT.
