Bayern Munich’s two big summer signings both starred at the World Cup — Ismael Saibari with Morocco and Nathaniel Brown with Germany.
Current Bayern midfielder Tom Bischof shared what he saw from the pair this summer.
“I rate Nene [Brown] very highly, he fits into our system perfectly. I’ve experienced myself how important it is to have a left-back who often moves into the middle and gets involved in attacking play. He has good technique, good passing and can defend strongly too. Saibari had an excellent
World Cup, but before that we’d already seen his reading of the game. He’s versatile and will help us,” Bischof said in an interview for club magazine Säbener 51, as captured by @iMiaSanMia.
Bischof’s comments on Brown are especially interesting. The former Eintracht Frankfurt left-back is facilitating the trend of inverting full-backs for both Bayern and Germany. Alphonso Davies has also been tasked with filling this role, and he is comfortable in a variety of attacking positions for the Canadian men’s national team.
Versatility seems to be the name of the game for Bayern; Bischof himself can expect to play different roles in midfield in his second season as well as continue to cover at either full-back position if needed. The number of players who can shine in multiple areas of the field should give Vincent Kompany a lot of options for cooking up interesting new wrinkles for 2026/27.
