As the Ballon d’Or ceremony next Monday approaches, Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane is atop the goal-scoring charts in the Champions League. With four goals and two assists in three games, Kane is averaging two goal involvements per game. He shares the top of the table with five players — including Erling Haaland, Stuttgart’s Ermedin Demirović and Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy (via UEFA).
Wednesday’s game saw the Bavarians battle it out with Arsenal to a 2-2 draw. Kane was pivotal
in cracking the packed defense of the visitors. His vision and skill to make an unbelievable through pass to Alphonso Davies gave his side the crucial equalizer. Kane later took a perfect penalty to push Bayern to 2-1.
His goal and assist were vital in a game where important players like Michael Olise and Joshua Kimmich were missing. Kane had to drop back several times to push the the rest of the team into attack. The 33 year-old was once again involved as far back as his own penalty box to collect and progress the ball.
Unfortunately, Kane having to drop back affected the end product. Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry each missed good chances and ultimately Arsenal was able to come back and draw the fixture. However, Kane has time and again proven his all-round ability to contribute from anywhere on the pitch. His impactful performance made the case again for his Ballon d’Or.
