, giving aspiring players aged 18–19 the opportunity to compete for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: an all-expenses-paid trip to Spain to train at Ciudad Real Madrid, the club’s iconic training complex. The initiative reflects
the continued collaboration between Abbott and Real Madrid aimed at combining elite sporting opportunity with education around nutrition and health, two pillars the organizations believe are essential to athlete development.
Tryouts across the United States
Beginning May 19, the program will host tryouts for an expected 1,000 participants, from which 16 players will ultimately be selected to form the 2026 Abbott Dream Team.
The tryouts will take place in the following cities:
- Miami — May 19
AutoNation Field (Davie, Florida) - Washington, D.C. — May 21
Howard University - Houston — May 27

Intentional Sports
The selected players will travel to Ciudad Real Madrid, where they will train in the same facilities used by one of the most successful clubs in football history.
Marcelo and Sabrina Ionescu join the program
The 2026 edition of the Abbott Dream Team will also feature the involvement of Real Madrid legend Marcelo and WNBA champion Sabrina Ionescu, both of whom will help promote the initiative and mentor young athletes.
Marcelo, one of the most decorated players in the club’s history, represents the pathway young players dream of when they step onto the field. Ionescu, a four-time WNBA All-Star and investor in women’s soccer, brings a broader perspective on athlete development and opportunity.
Together they will champion the program’s philosophy that education around nutrition and accessible opportunities in sport are key ingredients for long-term success and performance.
Building momentum ahead of the World Cup
The tryouts arrive as the United States prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the biggest soccer event to take place in the country in more than three decades.
By targeting young players in multiple regions of the country, the Abbott Dream Team initiative aims to expand access to elite football environments while highlighting the importance of health and nutrition in athletic performance.

For the 16 players eventually selected, the reward will be unique: the chance to train at Ciudad Real Madrid and experience the professional environment of one of the world’s most iconic clubs—a moment that could shape the trajectory of their sporting future.
