According to multiple reports on Saturday, Michigan forward Michael Hage is expected to return to the program for his junior year.
Hage — who was the 21st overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and is expected to play for the Montreal Candiens — was the nation’s leader in assists last season. He finished the 2025-26
season with 13 goals and 39 assists.
His freshman season was just as impressive. Hage was the Big Ten Rookie of the Year after scoring 12 goals and picking 21 assists. Hage is a crucial piece of helping Michigan’s offense run. The Wolverines had the top-scoring offense in all of college hockey this season. Despite losing players like Hughes, the Wolverines have a chance at getting some other crucial pieces back for another season.
The Wolverines lost 4-3 in double overtime to the Denver Pioneers on Thursday in the Frozen Four. Michigan is hoping to break a streak of Frozen Four losses in the near future, and having Hage return could certainly help with that.
